Terms of use

The rules for using Public Trust and rating a service.

About the site

Public Trust is independent. We aren't connected to any council, government department, regulator or inspectorate. Ratings describe what people reported. They aren't findings about any person or service.

Rating a service

  • Rate only a service you've had direct experience of, during the years you choose, and only about your own experience.
  • You must be 18 or over. Each person can have one rating for each service, covering every year of their experience.
  • Don't accept, offer or ask for anything in return for a rating.
  • Answer honestly. The declarations you make are part of what keeps the results fair.

What we check

We check every rating before it counts, as How ratings work explains. We can hold, reject or remove a rating that breaks these rules, and we always record why. We never remove a rating because it's negative.

Naming a worker

Naming a worker is optional and private. Their name is seen only by our staff and is never published.

What this site isn't

Rating a service isn't a complaint, and we can't act on individual cases. Complaints and help lists the official routes. If a child is in immediate danger, call 999.

Other things

  • We link to official sites, such as inspectorates. We aren't responsible for their content.
  • We provide the site as it is, free of charge. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we can't promise it will always be either.
  • Ratings are people's own reports of their experience. We check them against these rules, but we don't verify what happened.
  • Nothing in these terms limits anyone's rights where the law doesn't allow them to be limited.
  • These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
  • If we change these terms, we'll update this page and the date below.
